Golden Bear Assembly
Our golden bear assembly is this week. It's kind of cool- all the teachers get to nominate and say nice things about any students that they want to then all the teachers get to vote for 15.
The students that are honored each term as a "golden bear" get to go to the front of the lunchline and leave every class 5 mins. early. I want to be a golden bear!

It's a Small World
When I was teaching at Eagle Gate College, I had this nice lady in my graphic design classes. I'll never forget her because one night she went to a club in Ogden and Snoop Dogg was there and she came back and told us all about him. Well this year, I have her son in my class. He's one of the smartest kids I have. He's really nice. I told him that I remembered about Snoop Dogg and he started laughing. I guess that's their claim to fame.
The other girl told me she was sad that we didn't cook very often. I told her it was because we didn't have enough money in our cooking account. The next day- she came and told me that their family got $600 a month on food stamps and they would give me some to help out our cooking situation. I was so touched but I said - no way- your family should buy that food.
Chocolate Chip Cookies
I was teaching this awesome lesson on nutrition in my FACS classes. We learned about the 6 essential nutrients and the ever changing food pyramid. I didn't have any money that week in the account to let them cook but I did have all the ingredients for Chocolate Chip Cookies. So the point of the cooking lab- was how easy it is to eat junk but it takes planning and buying good food to not eat junk. I hope they got the message. Anyway- the cookies didn't turn out either. Oh my!
It's Been A While
They asked for volunteers to do a bulletin board out in the commons area. Being a new teacher to the district, I have to keep a journal of things that I did and take pictures of all the bulletin boards that I do???????? So I volunteered. I took Emily's favorite red blanket and hung it up cause our school colors are red and black and had the students pose in front of it.
They actually were really excited to have their picture taken. Then I had them write down what they loved about their school- most of the things were things like...lunch...when it's over.... my friends....summer..... but it was fun anyway.

Christmas Vacation is Over
Today we went back to the classroom. The school was nice and warm with the snow falling all day long. We played a bean game which turned into an all out bean throwing fight. One bean went down my throat when my mouth was open. (when is my mouth not opened). One bean richocheted off my front tooth. Several beans went down my cleavage and I even found several beans in my pockets.
I guess the highlight of the day was when I told Diego Happy Birthday- He was born on 1/1 and he kept asking in spanish "how did you know when my birthday was?" then he went over and got the vacuum and started vacuuming up all the beans. It was very touching.
p.s. find the man's head in the beans.
